SALON INTERNATIONAL 2008
I am very happy to once again be accepted into the annual international competition at the Greenhouse Gallery of Fine Art in San Antonio!

Location: Greenhouse Gallery, San Antonio
Event Dates: 4/12/2008 - 5/2/2008
Reception: 4/11/2008 • 6:00-9:00PM

"Salon International 2008 will be a spectacular exhibit of 306 paintings selected from 1175 entries representing 47 states and DC of the USA and 16 additional countries. As this event is open to all oil painters of traditional representational subject matter worldwide, the entries represent an extremely wide range of artistic skill and ability. In selecting paintings for the exhibit the jury was looking for over-all artistic excellence. In determining the presence of artistic excellence the following components were considered heavily: composition/design, focal point, use of color, paint manipulation, unification, originality, creativity, feeling, and choice of subject matter.
The major goal of Salon International is to both encourage and challenge artists world wide to continuously strive for artistic excellence."

NEW GALLERY
I am very excited to announce representation of my work by a new gallery, Bremond House Gallery, in the emerging art community of Elgin, Texas. I think you will love Bremond House Gallery, owned by Deborah Kaufman and David Warner. It is a quite open and beautiful space located in an historic building that has been expertly restored. These two talented and innovative people were the driving force behind the revival of The Strand and Post Office St. in Galveston. I know you will enjoy visiting with them.

"Established in 2003, Bremond House Gallery (BHG) specializes in both abstract and representational paintings, with 3-D exhibitions of sculpture in bronze, metal and glass. BHG represents emerging and established artists from the United States and abroad, with paintings and sculpture of exceptional quality. The gallery also provides full consulting services to assist collectors in acquiring art from the secondary market. The 5,700 sq.ft. gallery is located in the historic 1913 J. C. Miller Furniture building at 119 North Main Street, in downtown Elgin, approximately 20 miles from Austin, Texas.

COMMENT REGARDING PAINTING LESSONS:Regarding oil painting lessons:
“ Of all the teachers I have had no one has been like you. You are my idea of the perfect instructor. You offer just the right amount of help, your critiques are gentle and constructive, you are open to your student's opinions and requests and you allow for their own personal creativity. What could be better?
I was told that I was given a very high compliment from a well respected artist. All I can ever tell people is that YOU are the reason why. I sincerely mean it, too. I will forever be indebted to you for what you have done for me! Thank you, Lilli, from the bottom of my heart!!!” Gaye Sekula

LILLI PELL - OIL PAINTER
Lilli graduated from the University of Houston at Clear Lake in 1992 with a Master of Arts in Visual Art. Since that time she has established a studio in Wimberley, Texas, where she paints in oil and teaches classes. Her interest lies primarily in landscape, animal, and figure painting. A member of OPA and numerous other art organizations, Lilli is represented by several galleries and continues to explore the world of oil painting, knowing that there is always another challenge around the corner.
She paints realistically but with an eye to capturing mood and light in her paintings using loose brushwork and strongly contrasting values.

Working with different oil painting mediums also contributes to keeping Lilli's work energized. To work in oil mixed with wax and then applying heat to the painted surface (encaustic) is a way to achieve texture as well as impart a richness of color to the surface. The serendipitous results using this medium are invigorating. Working back and forth from one technique to the other stimulates creativity and encourages new and interesting ways of using oil paints.
