Billingsley is a retired English professor who lives with his wife, Claire, near Dripping Springs. He has been involved with music all his life, as a pianist, singer and choral director. Billingsley has been a performing pianist since a very early age, has sung in many musical productions, and has been a choral director, off and on, since he was in his teens. He also teaches classes in literature for the Wimberley Hobby Lobby. With Claire, he travels, cooks and gardens. He has two sons and five grandchildren.
Mary Ellen Johnson, a native of Odessa, recently completed the Doctorate of Musical Arts in Vocal Performance at UT-Austin. She has performed with the Boston Academy of Music and has sung in concerts and recitals through New England. She has continued her concert work in Texas, performing with the UT Symphony and the Austin Vocal Arts Ensemble. She teaches at Hyde Park Baptist High School. Between rehearsals, performances and teaching, she loves spending time with husband Gary and sons Jordan and Alex.
The repertoire for this special Valentine concert includes beloved works from popular American composers and lyricists Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, George and Ira Gershwin, Rodgers and Hammerstein and many others. Tissues will be available. Like all previous concerts with Professor Billingsley, this will be a very special evening.
