Guitarist Mark Anthony Cruz Performs at the EmilyAnn Theatre Trail of Lights on New Year's Eve

Performance begins at 7 PM at the EmilyAnn Theatre, December 31, 2006. The EmilyAnn Theatre is located at 1101 FM 2325, Wimberley, Texas.
Mark Anthony Cruz performs music spanning the genres of classical, jazz, folk, and rock. He earned his bachelor of music degree in guitar performance at Oklahoma City University and master of music degree in guitar performance at Texas State University, where he is currently professor of guitar.

Mark has been composing and arranging for guitar, solo and ensemble, for over twenty years. His Trilogy for Guitar was awarded a top prize in the University of Arizona School of Music's Annual Composition Contest for Solo Guitar and is available through FLP Publishing. He has expanded his original repertoire to include choral music and is published by Shawnee Press. His Triptych for solo guitar was published by MelBay in the Master Anthology of New Classic Guitar Works, Vol. 1, a compilation of original pieces by world renown guitarist composers. The Triptych was premiered in New York July 1st, 2005 in the skillful hands of guitar virtuoso Adam Holzman, professor of guitar at the University of Texas.

Most recently, Mark's composition for guitar quartet, El Payaso, was unanimously selected by a panel of nine adjudicators and was premiered by eighty guitarists in the 2006 Guitars Galore guitar ensemble festival sponsored by the Austin Classical Guitar Society.

Mark Anthony Cruz is active as a performer and has twice been a feature artist with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic and Ballet Oklahoma. He was a top prize recipient at the National Fingerpicking Championship at Winfield, Kansas in 1993 and 2001. He was the guitarist for the Baylor University film project, A Significant Journey. In August 2005, he performed in Italy, Germany, Bosnia and Austria for the troops on leave from the war in Iraq.

Mark performs regularly throughout the Midwest and the East Coast and has produced numerous independent recordings in various styles. Most notable is his title Pequeñas Piezas para Mi Padre, a collection of all-original solo classical guitar works. This recording was twice featured on the internationally syndicated radio program Classical Guitar Alive hosted by Tony Morris.

Mark Cruz will be performing at the EmilyAnn Theatre Trail of Lights in Wimberley, Texas on New Year's Eve at 7 PM. The Trail of Lights runs from the Saturday after Thanksgiving through January 1st from 6 to 9 each evening, and offers a fun and safe way to view Christmas lights on a walking tour that leads visitors through six acres of decorated Wonderland with Ye Olde Yule Log burning nightly as weather permits.

There is no admission to the Trail of Lights, however donations are gratefully accepted.
