Heritage Day in Driftwood, Texas...an Invitation to the Wimberley Area
|
|
|
You are invited to enjoy the 21st Annual Driftwood Heritage Day, now scheduled for October 8th.
|
|
|
Wimberley area residents and visitors are invited to come have fun at
an old-fashioned, family-friendly day in Driftwood. The 21st Annual
Driftwood Heritage Day, originally planned for Saturday, September 24, 2005, will now be held on October 6th, due to Rita.
Driftwood Heritage Day is held under the
oaks on the grounds of the Driftwood Methodist Church and the Driftwood
Community Center, intersection of FM 150 and CR 170 (Elder Hill Rd.).
Heritage Day kicks off with the parade at 9:30 AM. This is a wonderful
opportunity for children to participate in their first parade. In
addition to the parade there will be live entertainment by local
talent, a silent auction, a live auction with auctioneer Don Montague
at 11:30 AM, home-baked goodies by the ladies of Driftwood, BBQ sausage
wraps, nachos, soft drinks, children's games, a quilt exhibit and arts
and crafts booths. The day ends around 2:30 PM with the drawings for a
beautiful quilt made by the ladies of Driftwood and a hunting rifle.
The first Driftwood Heritage Day was held in 1986 to celebrate the
Texas Sesquicentennial. This tradition has continued every year since.
Heritage Day is the annual fundraiser for the Driftwood Community
Improvement Club and the continued maintenance and restoration of the
historic Driftwood Community Center. Originally built as a school,
today the Driftwood Community Center is the site of monthly community
covered-dish suppers, the annual Heritage Day festivities, family
reunions, wedding receptions, service club meetings, quilting bees,
voting and many other activities which enhance the community spirit of
Driftwood.
The Driftwood Community Improvement Club sponsors a community
covered-dish supper at the Driftwood Community Center the first
Saturday of every month except for July. Dinner starts promptly at 7:00
PM. All residents of Driftwood are invited to attend and bring their
favorite dish. The Driftwood Community Center is located behind the
Driftwood Methodist Church at the intersection of FM 150 and CR 170.
