Greg Lasley, in his element

The photography of
Greg W. Lasley...

has delighted visitors to VisitWimberley's Birds of Wimberley since 1999.

Lasley is an award-winning nature photographer who photographs wildlife where he finds it, anywhere in the world.

Greg Lasley is an award-winning nature photographer who photographs wildlife where he finds it, anywhere in the world. All who see them, especially those who have attempted bird photography, are awed by the results of his patience and expertise.

Green-winged Teal
2001 Greg W. Lasley
Lasley has combined his birding knowledge with photography skills to win the 2000 Valley Land Fund Photo Contest and is one of the best bird photographers in the country. Greg's photos have appeared in numerous birdwatching guides and in magazines.

His list of credits includes publications such as National Wildlife, Birding, American Birds, Texas Highways, Texas Parks and Wildlife, Nature Conservancy, Birder's World and Bird Watcher's Digest and on the cover of four books put out by Gulf Publishing. Audiences in Texas and around the country enjoy Greg's presentations and workshops.

Interestingly, his first twenty-five year career was unrelated to nature photography and tours. This was with the Austin Police Department, from which he retired as a lieutenant in 1997. As a leading expert in the field of birding, Greg, along with Chuck Sexton,  took over the editorship of the Texas Region for American Birds, later known as Field Notes. This is now known as North American Birds, a publication of the American Birding Association. He continued to be the Texas co-editor of that publication through the year 2000. He was the Secretary of the Texas Bird Records Committee of the Texas Ornithological Society from 1986 until 2000 and currently serves on the Bird Records Committee of the American Birding Association.

2001 Greg W. Lasley
From 1997 through early 2005 Lasley divided his time between photographing wildlife and leading bird-watching trips over much of the western hemisphere for Victor Emanuel Nature Tours. Although he still leads the occasional tour, Lasley now devotes his time to freelance wildlife photography. With over 500 of his bird photos published in various birding, travel, and conservation magazines, his work is viewed by millions.

Lasley co-edits the Texas regional columns in North American Birds, and serves on the ABA Checklist Committee. He also served on the ABA Board of Directors from 1997 until 2002. He has authored more than 25 articles in publications such as Birding and American Birds and was Secretary of the Texas Bird Records Committee of the Texas Ornithological Society from 1986 until 2000. Just a few more of Greg's photo credits include: American Birds, Natural History, Cotinga, and Birder's Journal, as well as notable contributions to the Birds of Wimberley here at VisitWimberley.com.

Greg Lasley's photos have also been used in several birdfinding guides and books such as Hummingbirds: Jewels in Flight, A Naturalist's Mexico, and The Birds of Texas, as well as in CDs and VHS tapes. For a full list of Greg's credits, and to view larger-sized and higher-resolution scans of Greg's photos, please visit his website.
