Wimberley Habitat for Humanity Sponsors the Second Annual Walk 4 Habitat
On Saturday, November 15, 2008, the Wimberley Valley Habitat for Humanity will host the 2nd Annual Walk 4 Habitat to raise money and community awareness. Registration begins at 8:30 AM, and the walk starts at 9:30 AM.

The walk begins at the parking lot of the First Baptist Church on Old Kyle Road. Walkers then go through the center of town to the Patsy Glenn Bird Refuge near the Wimberley Community Center, and return to the church where refreshments will be served.

Several antique cars and motorcycles will also be on display at the church. The Walk is open to everyone who is interested in supporting Habitat's mission in the Wimberley Valley. "We're looking for 'Sponsor Businesses' who will support the walk through a contribution," said Leeanne Ruane, Chairman of Fundraising for Habitat. "In return, those businesses will have mention in the Wimberley View and their name on the Walk 4 Habitat T-Shirt. Additional T-shirts will be given to walk participants and sold the morning of the Walk for $10. We encourage everyone in the Wimberley area to help support this wonderful cause."

The Wimberley Valley Habitat for Humanity was established in 1992 as a locally run affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International.
Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with people in need to build decent, affordable housing and depends on partnerships with volunteer workers and generous donors. The houses are sold to those in need at no profit and with no interest charge.

Volunteers provide most of the labor, and individual and corporate donors provide money and materials to build Habitat houses. Partner families themselves invest hundreds of hours of labor in building their homes and the homes of others. Their mortgage payments go into a revolving Fund for Humanity that is used to build more houses.

Additional funds are needed, however, to continue construction of new Habitat homes. Donations and special fund raising projects are needed to generate construction funds, and land donated at low or no cost to Habitat are essential to continue our building efforts. The Wimberley Village Store is a major source of construction funds and has provided over half the resources needed for recent builds. The Walk 4 Habitat is a major fundraising event, and the organization is hoping for enthusiastic support from the Wimberley community.

Donations for participation in the walk are $15 for individuals, $25 for families, and $65 for business sponsors. All contributions will go toward building our next Habitat home in the Wimberley Valley, scheduled for late November 2008.

Come on out, bring friends and family, and enjoy a pleasant morning walk that helps the community, too.
