The Kat's Meow - Featuring Kat Edmonson, Slim Smiles Richey, and Francie Meaux Jeaux - at Susanna's Kitchen in Wimberley, Texas
The Kat's Meow
The Kat's Meow appears at Susanna's Kitchen on Thursday, April 16, 2009.

The Kat's Meow features vocalist Kat Edmonson, led by guitarist-composer Slim Smiles Richey, with bassist extraordinaire, Francie Meaux Jeaux. Kat's Meow will sink her claws into your heart and make your soul purr! Hot, sultry, sophisticated and beautiful with a wide range of influences from Nat King Cole to Billie Holliday, from Wes Montgomery to Peggy Lee, from Ray Charles to Ray Brown.

Slim Richey, the most dangerous guitarist in Texas, has played and recorded with quite a few biggies including Herb Ellis, Marc Johnson, Maryann Price, Marty Stuart, David Amram, Ricky Skaggs, Wayne “The Train” Hancock, and Ray Price. He has toured Japan twice, Italy three times, and on and on. He’s internationally recognized for his distinct style of Southwestern jazz guitar and is equally adept at blues and Gypsy Jazz.

Francie Meaux Jeaux, bassist extraordinaire, has played with Dan Hicks, Michelle Shocked, Bruce Robison, Kelly Willis and Maryann Price. She’s a veteran of many jazz festivals including the San Miguel de Allende International Jazz Festival in Mexico, Jazz Alive in San Antonio, Texas Jazz Festival in Corpus Christi, Old Settler’s Festival in Driftwood, Jazz on the Boulevard in Fort Worth, and The Django’s Birthday Festival in Fort Worth.

Katherine Edmonson (known on stage as Kat) is resurrecting old standards and jazz tunes with a distinctively energetic and hypnotic voice. Even the rowdiest of crowds are mesmerized by her heart-wrenching ballads and renditions of Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra favorites.

Kat’s musical debut began at age 19 with American Idol, when her audition was aired at the onset of the second season. The verdict from the typically indifferent Simon was that not only was her sound equal to that of legendary Doris Day, but that her audition performance (Fever by Peggy Lee) was "100% totally authentic for the type of song she chose." After making her way to California, her performance was rated in the top 50 out of hundreds of thousands competitors. Wherever she sings, whether in Austin, Houston, Dallas or San Antonio, she gets standing ovations and definitely leaves a lasting impression! In Austin, she routinely receives several encores and standing ovations.
