The WHS Lone Star Theatre Presents The History of Tom Jones at the 2003 One-Act Play Festival
Original Performance Thursday, March 27, 2003 at the Lone Star Theatre
The 2003 one-act play season began with the WHS Lone Star Theatre's first public performance of their UIL One-Act Play competition entry: "The History of Tom Jones," based on the novel by Henry Fielding.

ABOUT TOM JONES

One of the great comic novels in the English language, Tom Jones was an instant success when it was published in 1749: Ten thousand copies were sold in its first year. A foundling, Tom is discovered one evening by the benevolent Squire Allworthy and his sister Bridget and brought up as a son in their household until it is time for him to set out in search of both his fortune and his true identity. Amorous, high-spirited, and filled with what Fielding called "the glorious lust of doing good" but with a tendency toward dissolution, Tom Jones is one of the first characters in fiction to display legitimate sides of human virtue and vice.

THE CAST AND DIRECTORS

In 2001 and 2002, Wimberley High School's Lone Star Theatre students went to the State UIL One-Act Play Competition, and in 2001 they won the 2001 State AAA UIL One-Act Play Contest.

In 2003 the state champion cast was led by the husband/wife directing team of J. Gary Wyatt and Lydia Miller-Wyatt, who were honored as Educators of the Year in January 2001 by the Texas Educational Theatre Association. Lydia also won the prestigious Southwestern Bell Award for UIL Coaching. Known for their competence in all areas of theatre production, the students construct and manage the set, make costumes and props, and run lights and sound for the production.

LOCATION AND CONTACT INFORMATION

The performance was at the WHS Lone Star Theatre, 100 Carney Lane (at the intersection of FM 2325 Blanco Road and Carney Lane) in Wimberley, Texas.
