River City Ballet to Perform "Graduation Ball" at EmilyAnn Theatre in Wimberley, Texas

Performance is on Saturday, May 1, 2010 at 8 PM

The River City Ballet Company is proud to present Graduation Ball, originally choreographed by David Lichine and arranged by RCB Artistic Director, Keith Duncan.

Young Wimberley resident, 13 year old Rachel Swift will appear in the show, as will Ella Martin-Gachot, a student at St. Stephen's School in Wimberley.

This delightful mini-ballet was choreographed in 1940 in Australia by David Lichine during the 1939-1940 tour of the Original Ballets Russes, the company which performed earlier under the directorship of Sergei Diaghilev. This single-act, light-hearted comic ballet was premiered on March 1st, 1940 in Sydney. As a score, Doráti used some less-familiar works of Johann Strauss II and incorporated them into a full ballet.

The ballet tells the story of the many hilarious antics that arise at a Viennese girl's college graduation ball to which a group of young men from a neighboring military school are invited.

Also featured on Saturday is a pre-performance art show and sale with pieces donated by local artists in support of the ballet.
