"The breathy, lingual folk-poetry of Suzanne Vega, the humanistic personal-politic of Joni Mitchell, and the emotive torch of Billie Holliday."
Dallas Observer
Eliza Gilkyson returns to Wimberley audiences with a concert at Susanna's Kitchen on Thursday, March 15, 2012. The concert begins at 7:30 PM.

Eliza Gilkyson was born in Hollywood, California and spent her teen years in the more spiritual environs of Santa Fe, New Mexico. As a young teenager she recorded demos for her dad (who wrote folk/pop music hits "Greenfields," Marianne," and "Memories are Made of This," among others) and started writing and recording her own material as well.

From Austin, Texas and to Los Angeles, California and back to Texas again, she is a fourth generation artist. Her brother, Tony Gilkyson, is a guitarist, producer and member of the seminal alternative band "X".

Eliza has toured and recorded with a number of notable artists including: Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Eric Johnson, Bonnie Raitt, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Dan Fogelberg and Andreas Vollenweider, with whom she collaborated (co-writer and lead vocalist) on his release "Eolian Minstrel."

Gilkyson has released two CD’s on Redhouse Records and released a third in spring, 2008. Her newest album, Beautiful World,  is her first studio album in three years and is an evocative collection of songs that explore an optimism and love for the world despite its violence and darkness.  Smart, sensual lyrics combine with upbeat Americana, folk and pop sounds to create her most radio-friendly CD to date. Eliza will tour in North America and Europe introducing this album.

Eliza Gilkyson is part of the Ribbon of Highway Tour that celebrates Woody Guthrie's music, has toured with Patty Griffin and Mary Chapin Carpenter, and performed internationally at festivals and theaters throughout 2003. When not on the road she makes her home in Austin where she is telling her story as "truthfully, melodically and lyrically as she can."

Susanna’s Kitchen is a monthly coffeehouse hosted by the Wimberley United Methodist Church on the third Thursday of the month in the WUMC fellowship hall and is open to the public. Tickets are available at the door, $15 for adults, $5 for students, childcare is available (ticket prices vary per show). Pie from Wimberley Pie Company, organic coffee from Hill Country Natural Foods, and hot tamales are always on site! Doors open at 7:00 pm, with music starting at 7:30. This is a smoke-free, alcohol-free venue.
