Greater Hays County Region Students Invited to Play in the Starlight Youth Orchestra

Young musicians shine with the starlight.
The Starlight Symphony Orchestra is proud to announce the 3rd annual Starlight Youth Orchestra for the 2007-2008 season.

The youth orchestra is open to greater Hays County region students in grades 4 through 12, who play a wind, percussion or string instrument. The orchestra is free and the registration deadline for interested youth is October 26.

Once the student has completed the registration process, auditions will be held on November 11 to assess their readiness and seating placement. Auditions are being held at Chapel in the Hills in Wimberley.

Students selected for the youth orchestra will work with Starlight Symphony Orchestra’s Musical Director, Dr. Cina Crisara to prepare selected orchestral music and perform on the Symphony’s Young Artist Showcase concerts in March.

Students will receive music to learn individually. Group rehearsals will start in January and run until the performances later that season. To accommodate students, rehearsals will generally be held on Sunday afternoons.

The Starlight Youth Orchestra will perform during the Starlight Symphony Orchestra’s Young Artist Showcase on March 8 at the Hays CISD Performing Arts Center in Kyle and March 9 at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit in Dripping Springs.

In addition to the Starlight Youth Orchestra, the Young Artist Showcase will feature the two winners from the Starlight Symphony Orchestra sponsored Young Artist Solo Competition. The winners of the solo competition have fulfilled Starlight Symphony Orchestra’s requirements and will win a $500 scholarship.

Application forms, guidelines and fliers for any of the Young Artist Festival programs can be found on our website at Contact Deborah Rothschild at (512)476-2377 for more information.
