The Starlight Symphony Orchestra Young Artist Festival - Call for Musicians

The Starlight Symphony Orchestra is proud to announce two exciting programs for advanced student musicians through grade twelve.

The Starlight Young Artist Solo Competition is designed to provide the opportunity for two talented and dedicated young musicians to become featured soloists with the Starlight Symphony Orchestra. Winners will also receive a $500 scholarship.

For eligibility, students must have played (or plan to play prior to January, 2009) at least one concert program with the orchestra plus an additional concert or community service hours. New students must audition for acceptance into the orchestra. Applications for the Young Artist Solo Competition are due by October 15th, 2008.

The Starlight Youth Orchestra invites students to come together in January and February of 2009 to prepare a piece(s) for full youth orchestra including winds, percussion and strings to be performed on the Starlight Symphony's Young Artist Showcase in early March.

Applicants must be recommended by their private teacher or by their music director for participation and placement.  All players are required to audition. Applications for the Youth Orchestra are due by October 26th, 2008.

Performance dates are Saturday, February 28, 2009 at the Canyon Lake High School in Fischer, Texas at 7:30 pm and Sunday March 1, 2009 at the Hays Performing Arts Center in Kyle, Texas at 4:00 pm.

Rehearsals begin in January on selected Monday evenings at the First Baptist Church at 501 Old Kyle Road in Wimberley, Texas. Selected Sunday afternoon rehearsals will be also held in Wimberley.

Auditions for both programs will take place November 9th, 2008 from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Chapel in the Hills, Wimberley.
