The EmilyAnn Theatre in Wimberley, Texas presents The Tempest by William Shakespeare through October 1, 2011.
Probably written around 1610, The Tempest is thought by many critics to be the last play that Shakespeare wrote alone. The play was largely ignored until the 20th century when critics re-evaluated and revived interest in the work. At least 46 operas have been inspired by it and it is often performed on stage. On screen, the 1956 science fiction film, Forbidden Planet, portrayed the island as the planet Altair IV.
In The Tempest, Prospero is exiled to an enchanted island where he harnesses the powers of magic and masters the spirits that dwell there. His desire for revenge drives him to conjure a mighty storm trapping his enemies on the island.
This production is directed by Bridget Farias and featuring Kevin Gates as Prospero.
