The Wimberley Players "Inspecting Carol" in Hilarious Holiday Form
"Inspecting Carol" runs from Friday, November 20 to Sunday, December 13, 2009 on Friday and Saturday evenings with a matinee each Sunday.

"Inspecting Carol," opening November 20, 2009 at the Wimberley Playhouse, is the story of a small theatre company trying to pull together its annual cash-cow production of "A Christmas Carol." Their four-day rehearsal schedule is way too scant, the National Endowment for the Arts is threatening to stop grant money for the group, and the accountant has just informed the director that they are on the brink of bankruptcy.

As if that were not enough, there are troubles with the perennial actors for this play. Scrooge last year turned the show upside-down by speaking his lines in Spanish in a effort at social protest, and Cratchitt refuses to carry Tiny Tim on his shoulders as the youth playing that part each year is getting…well, heavy.

When the troubled troupe hears that the NEA is sending a representative to the theatre due to reports of "significant artistic deficit," they jump to the conclusion that the talentless young man who arrives is the NEA representative. They offer him a role in the play and things go from bad to worse.

"Inspecting Carol" was written by Dan Sullivan and the Seattle Repertory Theatre. The Wimberley Players production is directed by Dawn Youngs, an established theatre professional first seen in Wimberley in "Stop the World, I Want to Get Off."

The cast features Jonna Beck as MJ, a founding member of the theatre company. Dorothy is played by Judith Laird, artistic director of the Players and seen at the Wimberley Playhouse most recently in "Rose's Dilemma" and "Blithe Spirit."  Melinda Ellisor  ("Marvin's Room" and "Man of La Mancha") returns to the stage as Zorah, the founding director of The Soapbox Playhouse. Wayne is played by Daniel Bisett, new to the Players.

Reed Neal ("Marvin's Room" and "Stop the World") returns to the Wimberley stage as Bart, and Sam Ellisor plays Luther (Tiny Tim), the other youth. Rhonda Leal plays K. Evin Emory and Kate Conroy plays Betty. Other cast members include Bruce Drobeck as Phil, Robert Fitzgerald as Larry playing Scrooge, and Guy Ben-Moshe as Sidney playing Marley.

"Inspecting Carol" runs from Friday, November 20 to Sunday, December 13. Friday and Saturday performances begin at 8:00 pm and Sunday matinees at 2:30 pm. Tickets are $18 except for opening night, which is preceded by a reception at 7:00 pm ($25). They may be purchased online at the Wimberley Players website or through the box office, 512-847-0575.
