Wimberley Market Days are held on the first Saturday of
each month from
March through December, from 7 AM to 4 PM.
Visitors often plan to spend the whole day here and in the Village of Wimberley, where unique shops abound. Some arrive the day before and stay in one of the excellent lodgings in the area to fully experience the area. One thing is certain, with around 450 vendors to check out, you'll want to allow plenty of time for a relaxed exploration of the possibilities.
Wimberley Market Days is the major fundraising project of the Wimberley Lions Club, and is largely served by volunteers who are members of the club. Wimberley Market Day is the second largest flea market in Texas.
Items for sale range from antiques, collectibles, jewelry, nuts, hats, crafts, bird houses, clothing, leather goods, books, plants, decorative items, art, photography, and furniture to baked goods, massages, honeybutter, crafts, candles, music CDs, and Mexican imports.
Pets are not allowed at this market. Aside from consideration for other shoppers, they'd not have much fun dodging the many feet using the scenically curving and narrow, often crowded, pathways. Of course, given central Texas weather, you'd never leave your pet in the car. There are excellent kennel services available right in Wimberley where your doggie can be comfortable and safe while you shop.
There's often live
entertainment at this market in the large pavilion. This covered area has plenty of shaded seating for enjoying the food and drinks always available at numerous concession stands. A delicious barbeque lunch, prepared by the Wimberley Lions, is available if you'd like to stay the day.
Although there's no admission fee, do plan to pay for parking. Most of the parking lots are also managed by the Lions Club, and the proceeds for parking, as do most of the proceeds from booth rentals and concessions, go to the club's local charitable endeavors.
On crowded days, the traffic can be a little daunting and you may want to plan a little extra time to get into a parking lot. For this reason, this market doesn't get the highest rankings on the green scale, but if you carpool or drive a fuel-efficient vehicle, you can minimize the carbon footprint and still enjoy one of the largest markets in the state.
If you love flea markets, you'll love Wimberley Market Days. The
variety of items offered ranges from furniture (new and old) to crafts
to clothing to birdhouses.
Although the event is held on Lions Field, where trees shade shoppers in some areas from the hot Texas sun, there are plenty of places where they don't. Hats, comfortable shoes, and sun screen are highly recommended.
