Just to amplify a bit on Kelly's posting. There are four home gardens and the courtyard garden at the local nursing home on the annual Wimberley Garden Tour.At the Vint garden, a driveway leads you past the horse barn access to the house and gardens. While house, pool and water feature have recently been built, it is surprising to note the extensive variety of mature trees, shrubs and garden "rooms" under restoration. Ask a docent to explain this landscape mystery. Don't miss the hill country views from this unique site!
The O'Neill's started their landscape in the fall of 2000 facing the typical landscape trials of Wimberley: lots of deer, lots of rock and little water. Added to this, they had the challenge of working with a large slope just outside their front door. Come see their answer to these challenges. This garden is a great example of working with nature to produce a wonderful hill country landscape.
At the Lee garden, you will be treated to viewing wildlife while surrounded by beautiful plants. Don't miss this Certified Texas Wildscape and Nationally Certified Backyard Wildlife Habitat. Relax on a driftwood bench, take in the stunning view of the valley below and possibly catch a glimpse of Cedar Wax Wings or Bob White Quail.
The look and feel of the hill country surround the front of the Ross home. Surprise and delight await the visitor to the backyard garden. A path takes you down a gentle slope, past beds of larkspur and poppies, a purple martin house and through an old-fashioned rose garden. A little further, you will find assorted berries growing in a back corner of the year.
Relax in the peaceful courtyard garden at Deer Creek Nursing Center under the shade of numerous oak trees. Listen to the soothing sound of the fountain, breathe in the fresh air while enjoying the many colors of this garden. Residents take pleasure in planting in wooden planter boxes that are thoughfully placed at wheelchair height. Deer Creek Nursing Center has generously provided Saturday's refreshments for the Garden Tour. Be sure to stop by after you've looked at the other gardens. Deer Creek is located on RR3237 (Kyle Rd.).
