We have been asked to post the following message. A more detailed article about this subject can also be found here:
Extreme Fire Alert for Hays County

Message from the Office Of Emergency Management and
Hays County Fire Marshal's Office
Hays County is under Extreme Fire Danger and we have a burn ban in effect.
All aerial fireworks are banned. (Note: Please see proclamation below now banning the use of all fireworks of any kind.)
Keep your eyes open and if you see any grass fires report this as soon as possible to 911.

Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Jeff Turner
Hays County
Office of Emergency Management
512-393-739

Update: Hays County Judge has now declared disaster for Hays County. Fireworks, welding and use of all combustible materials outdoors is prohibited. See the link above for details.

I hope people will grab the nearest phone and call 911 when they see idiots shooting off fireworks. They don't have a clue - what goes up must come down in flames. Standing outside watering your roof won't get it in this kind of weather. And what's with all these fireworks stands selling all over the place? Do they have some kind of special dispensation from on high to sell trouble? You know their biggest customers are kids. Come on Hays County!!!!!

Felicity, it looks as though Hays County is responding to these extreme conditions. See the proclamation from the judge issued today.

I agree, however, that it's incongruous to see the fireworks stands operating away, business as usual. There were three open within a 6 mile stretch from Wimberley to just past the Junction today, and that's only going South. It's a very disturbing sight. It's such a huge liability for the owners, you have to wonder why they'd take the risk.

Stay safe.

Well, I did allow my son to buy some, as he won't have opportunity again until July. We have strict rules about them and he won't have access to them in any way until we get a good long soaking rain. I was very proud of Wimberley last night, I heard not one pop.

Just because you buy them does not mean you will be irresponsible with them.

Did you think all the stands would be out of fireworks by July? If you have the same luck investing in stocks of fireworks that I had in the stock market the last few years the price will plummet in July and there'll be another drought. May I recommend a bridge for sale somewhere in N.Y.?

Huh? Was that directed to me? If so, my son will shoot them well before July, he absolutely loves fireworks and is quite safe and reasonable with them. Once we get a good rain he'll be free to use them, I certainly hope that happens before July! My point was that if he didn't buy them now (ban or no) he wouldn't have opportunity to buy them for 6 more months.

He buys spinning/popping ones that he'll do on our deck area and not rocket types. So he's stocked and ready, then he'll restock in July. We live fairly remotely so we feel comfortable shooting them when we want to, not limited to one particular day.
