Noticed on the agenda for the meeting tonight that the first item on the list is recess into a closed session to consult with attorney about what legal authority the village has in the regulation of subdivisions.I remember when incorporation was voted in. It was supposed to make it possible to help contain uncontrolled development by every tom dick and harry who wanted to make a few bucks. It will be interesting to see the outcome of this one.

My neighbor attended the meeting and said it was quite a show. He said that the three councilmembers who took the campaign contributions from Dunn and Askew came through like champs. Larson ($1000) made the motion to approve the subdivision. Xiques ($1000) seconded the motion. Roccofort ($1000) voted yes, along with Bursiel. Let us all remember how these folks got into office. The best government that money can buy.

You know, it's ridiculous that after two P&Z meetings and at least 1 council meeting, the overlying idea is that we just don't have authority over the matter, so let's approve it. I love the revelation by Mr. Flocke that gee, this is our test case and we now realize our requirements may not be sufficient. This problem has faced Austin and outlying areas of any major Texas city and has been on the mind of most folks around here and now we realize we behind the curve. I would have to believe that Wimberley's authority may be limited, but the fact that it's come down to this after much time and effort is almost silly. It was mentioned that they 'need to get to work' on the development framework so it'll be interesting to see where that leads given a pro-growth council. Afterall, the mayor's proposal to limit the authority/weight of the P&Z commission reflects the idea that us simple citizens shouldn't have the authority for decisions - that's what the smart elected officials are for. There's a $2mil investment in Blue Hole and given the publicity and public support for spot, these folks should seem to have a more than a passing interest in it's preservation. Washing their hands of the authority for denying this subdivision may be legally supportable, but it's unacceptable for it to continue. The treasures of this area are absolutely at risk and if those in charge can't or won't act to protect them, we have serious problems.

You are so right. We already have a hint at where the council wants to go as far as limiting the power of the Planning and Zoning Commission. I guess we'll have to see what Mayor Haley wants to do with his "let's slap down Planning and Zoning" proposal now. In the face of all of the citizen uproar about this subdivison you would think he would pause and reconsider. As far as what they might do to really bring some solution to the problem, it's like my friend said. If they can pass a protection ordinance in Woodcreek what is wrong with the bunch in Wimberley.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is the protection ordinance you are refering to in Woodcreek? I wasn't there-I couldn't bear witnessing what I was afraid would happen. Were there alot of people there who were upset about the council's decision?

My neighbor said that there were probably 100 folks there and standing room only. The council spin is that their hands were tied (is anyone surprised at that?). That water protection ordinance is apparently on Woodcreek's website.

City Council makes me sick. Why don't they move back to where they came from instead of coming here and assisting those who could give a flip about what precious natural gifts we have here. It's too bad we can't run them out of town like the old days.

The thing that pisses me off is that I wasn't allowed to vote. I'm just outside of the voting area. But the ramifications for what these greedy stupid city council idiots decide will impact me and everyone in the area.

Try this one. Somebody at the meeting started asking Haley questions about Wimberley Water Supply supplying water to the subdivision. Apparently Haley didn't just duck the question. He told the questioner that the council couldn't answer questions during the public hearing. That's a new one. Sure, the council can't get into an exchange with a citizen on non-posted items, but it was a public hearing. I think Tommy just decided to make up a new rule. Of course he had good reason to do that. He's the president of Wimberley Water Supply and Councilman Roccafort is also on the Board of Directors. He probably didn't want to make that very public with a room full of folks who expect clean and open government.
