Can anyone suggest a veterinarian in the Wimberley area. Just got back from a vet and was charged $46.00 for the visit and $150.00 for medication which included antibiotics. Looked up medication online and found that I could order the meds for half that price. It is getting to where I take one of my dogs to a vet and get charged at least $100 to $200 per visit. Does anyone order pet meds online? And do any of the local vets let you do this to save money?

I can't give you any names on here but I ended up going to a vet in San Marcos due to the high cost of vets in Wimberley. I love my vet. It is a couple who have practiced for some time. They are fair with their prices and kind.

I order pet meds online whenever I can and always order Revolution online. Be sure to check out the pharmacy's bona fides (bona fidoes? what a barking bad pun) before ordering, but you can save $$$$$ if you have time to wait a few days for them. Just research the source and check the dates on the meds when they come.

Of course, antibiotics probably can't wait for the delivery, but even with those your regular vet should agree to writing a prescription with generic you can fill at your best-deal pharmacy. Those are the same for everyone and places like CostCo have much, much lower prices for prescriptions.

It makes a certain amount of sense to me that a vet would have to charge for the convenience and the responsibility of maintaining an inventory of drugs, but I'm like you and would much rather save the money and do a little bit more legwork if I have to.

Good luck.

I agree with XII, they have been good to me. Including a couple of weekend emergencies, one of those being a porcupine incident.

I have used the vet in Blanco for years. He's wonderful. He recently took on a partner, who I also like. Very reasonable prices.

I LOVE my vet who is 1 mile north on RR12. And I try to purchase my supplies from him/her as well since this is a needed income source that allows vets to keep office visit rates lower. It's an expensive proposition to own a pet in this area - fleas, heartworm, rabies, diseases from wild critters, etc., but the alternatives are awful. I paid exterminators thousands to get fleas out of my home shortly after moving here from the deserts of AZ where fleas barely survive.
My vet is also an active member of this community which I think is an important consideration.

I agree with Miss Chris about the San Marcos vets. I found the Wimberley vets to be too expensive.

YEP - the vet 1 mile North of town on RR12 is the best! Many evening/weekend emergency visits, they have always been there for me. They have also shopped expensive meds for me and let me deal directly with the pharmacy when my cat's kidneys were failing. I have had two animals put to sleep there and would not go any where else, the vets and techs and staff are the best! That's just my opinion! Good luck!

Thanks for all your suggestions. I did try the vet clinic 1.6 miles from the Wimberley Square and am very happy with them. Angel (my pit bull) had a growth removed and I felt that they did an outstanding job and gave loving care to my "baby". She is fully recovered from the surgery and doing well. Thank you again for the suggestions.
