For anyone interested in helping protect our precious Jacob's Well and the watershed, there will be a fund raiser at Salt Lick in September. See the link below. http://www.hillcountrywatercelebration.com/

Sure. Right. Let's send 'em some money. They just gave away the well to Hays County. Trust me. They gave away the well. And if you don't know what I'm talking about, you sure as heck shouldn't send them any money. Please. In the future, use the word "stewardship" carefully.

I know there was some controvery about this but I believe the property was threatened with a nearby large dense development. I think the intent was to preserve it from being invaded & abused. Sometimes, the alternatives are not always attractive.

I also think the developers wanted to cut a road into the area, too. One would also think you could pressure the county into doing something to preserve Jacob's Well, while the private investor would tell people to take a hike. In addition, some of the responses have been on the snippy side which really wasn't necessary. If you had a bad weekend or a bad hair day, please don't take it out on others. A civil disagreement with some additional facts works much better, right?

If you bother to check out the deal you'll see that the Jacobs Well people gave away the well and some land around it. The county is going to give them a quarter of a million a year for five years to "manage" the area. Sure. You ought to send 'em some money.

Wow...thought this would be one of those emails that everyone would want to know about. I heard it on KUT with David Baker discussing it. David Baker has been the champion for the protection of the well for many, many years. I guess I don't know everything that's going on...no need to be rude about return remarks though.

For anyone to say that “They just gave away the well to Hays County” just needs to read more. The County did not buy the well nor did the WVWA give it to the County. The County purchased about 50 cares to the north of JW to prevent a lawsuit and a huge development on the edge of the spring. I would suggest that some individuals need to do some research before making such outlandish statements. BTW, the link to the Hays County Videos is an old lawyer trick of flooding your adversary with tons of irrelevant information.

Let me try this one more time. This is from an announcement from the Wimberley Valley Watershed Association:"The current plan anticipates that once the County purchases the adjacent 50 acres, the WVWA will deed 31 acres to Hays County to be managed as one singular preserve known as the Jacob's Well Natural Area." That little bit of information was in an email cirulated all over town in conjunction with an invitation to a meeting. Perhaps you missed it. I can assure you that the 31 acres going to the county includes the well.

Disturbing. Now I don't know what to support. At $65 bucks a head, I will need to think twice about where that money goes. Thanks for the info.

According to anothert source Jaccob's Well is included in the land to be sold. And while there is an agreement, it's not a done deal yet, there are moving parts to deal with.I noticed in that other source that HTG Board members Key & Skipton opposed the County purchase of The Well. Interesting. [This message has been edited by Reddog (edited August 31, 2010).]

Here's the way I look at it. They are already going to get my money when they get the $250K a year from the county. The county's money came from us, the tax payers.
