RALLY CANCELLED! Congratulations, Wimberley! Your voices were heard! For the story, read on down the page. Original public meeting information - MEETING CANCELLED Please mark this notice of public meeting on the proposed discharge permit of AquaSource. The meeting will be held April 9, 2001 at 7:00 pm at Danforth High School. It is critically important that voices of the community are heard on this issue, which could affect water quality for every individual and family in this area. This meeting is about AQ wanting to dump 900,000 or 600,000 gallons of treated sewage into Wilson creek (a short hop) to the Blanco River. Their application for the discharge is 900,000 gallons but their public notice says 600,000 gallons. Don't know for sure how much they want. Anyway, it is NOT a good idea. Given AQs history with spills in this community (and all over Texas), their poor maintenance and customer service - it is a disaster waiting to happen. To top that off with - 2 faults in the creek where they want to dump, we'll all be recycling each others - well you can figure that one out. Those faults lead directly into our ground water. There are lots more reasons - but most importantly - come to the meeting. Come at 6:30pm and join us in the picket line. Just tell me what you want your sign to say and we will hold it for you! See you there!

This meeting is an important opportunity to motivate AquaSource to make its treated wastewater available to the golf course and private residences for landscape watering (instead of polluting the Blanco and the water table.) This method of recycling wastewater would preserve our precious groundwater supply and allow for plentiful landscape water even in drought conditions. I just returned from Vero Beach, FL, where they offer a dual water system for new houses, potable water for inside use and treated wastewater for outdoor use. There sure were lots of happy people and happy lawns and gardens during a serious drought with water restrictions (which did not apply to the forward thinking people who had invested in the dual water system option.) It pays to take the trouble to figure out how to work with nature like this. ------------------ We are all responsible for our health, individually and collectively. It does not take a rocket scientist to know that clean water, air, and soil are necessary for healthly people.

At 2:12pm today, AquaSource withdrew their application for a creek discharge. At approximately 3:00pm today TNRCC confirmed the withdrawal and canceled Monday nights public meeting. This is cause for celebration! Sometimes you just get lucky. I imagine there are several reasons why they pulled out. I wouldn't want to face Wimberley citizens either! Anyway, to everyone who worked sooo hard on the public meeting events, I can't thank you enough. Seems just the thought of meeting with us again was just too much to bear.

I hope this means that AquaSource will put in the infastructure to provide for the delivery of treated wastewater to residences hooking up to their system so that residents can have sprinkler systems for their landscaping needs without burdening the groundwater supplies in our drought prone area. Here's some information about such systems which I was planning to present at the Hearing:"Spray and Drip Irrigation for Wastewater Reuse, Disposal," Pipeline: Small Community Wastewater Issues Explained to the Public, National Small Flows Clearinghouse at West Virginia University (funded by EPA), PO Box 6064, Morgantown, WV 26506-6064 (800)624-8301, Vol. 10, No. 1, Winter 1999. Virginia Gilbert, Town Manager, Indian River Shores, FL (a small town of new developments in the Vero Beach FL area that successfully offers a dual water system which includes a line for treated wastewater for landscape irrigation at private residences) (561) 231-1771.
