I heard a rumor that the campground is under new ownership. Is there any truth to this? Lil' Arkansas was one of the most wonderful places to visit and get away from it all. There aren't many camping sites out there quite like this one, and I can't believe that such a place can just disappear from everyone's lives because of a family dispute. Thanks for any info.

The family still owns the land at Little Arkansas but as I understand they have given up the right to operate it as a campground when they sold off part of it to a developer. This is one of the few places that was left that could allow public access and camping along the river. That opportunity is gone. We must act now if we are to secure some places along the river that have the possible use as a natural area for controled public access.

Irony-For years my family, especially my sister & her family camped several times a year during weeks of vacation at the Little Ark. I will always remember Henny and her telling us about her & her husband moving to Wimberley from Arkansas. Precious memories. Now-I married a man and we moved from Tex to Arkansas on a small ranch with a river that runs through it & I often wish that I could make it another Little Arkansas for people to escape to just like Henny's.------------------

Kathalee - I don't know whether it's sad or good, but private ownership and stewardship of diminishing natural areas may be the only hope for future nature lovers. I think we've seen the gov. can't do it all. And with the Bush agenda it'll be surprising if anything's left at the end of 4 years. People who think private landowners are selfish may have another think coming in a couple of decades when their protection is all that has saved remaining wild places. Maybe you and your husband have a special opportunity right now to preserve the place you inhabit. Good luck. It's good to know there are others out there who care. Kyle
