Lee Gibson, Wimberley Lions Club Lion of the Year, 2007
|
|
|
|
|
|
Lee Gibson has shown great Lion leadership.
While club President and chief administrator of the Chamber of Commerce, she created synergy between the Lions Club and the Chamber of Commerce that has been very beneficial to the Lions Club. She undertook the task of a single club hosting the District Convention, delivered without a flaw, generating many kudos for the Wimberley Lions Club.
Lee was also top membership recruiter this year with four new members. Under her leadership, the club received the C.W.A. MacCormack Award for the most active club in the district.
Market Days finds Lee managing the Information Booth, working as a concession shift leader, talking to vendors as a Vendor Ambassador, and touching base with a lot of the working Lions.
Below Lee answered a few questions for us...
What projects have you participated in as a Lion?
When I joined the club, I started out working in Concession #3 and stayed there for 4 years as 2nd shift crew chief. This year, I moved to Concession #1 as crew chief for the 3rd shift. I am also a Vendor Ambassador and have 80 vendors that I visit each Market Day to garner feedback, both bad and good!
I have been and/or a member of the following Lion committees:
Membership Lion Development Donations Scholarship Finance & Budget Mobil Health Screening Unit Market Day Promotion Lion Information & Webpage Special Events
How did you end up in Wimberley?
I went to Rocky River Ranch as a camper in 1953 and fell in love with it (and it was a LOT different back then)! My husband's college roommate lives here and when we visited him in the late 90's, we both just loved the town! Cecil worked for NASA for 40 years and I worked for Tenneco for 25 years. We both decided to retire, started house hunting and moved to Wimberley in 1998. We have never regretted that decision!
What activities do you enjoy the most in Wimberley?
Even though I had retired, I soon became a "Professional Volunteer". Wimberley has a way of getting you "involved". I love the Lions Club and all of the contributions it makes to the community as well as the many Lions programs it supports. "We Serve" is a perfect motto for Lions because it is what everyone does best! Market Day is such fun and all of the profits go into our Donation budget...so that spells SUCCESS!!!!
I am also on the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and serve as Director of Administration. I manage the Chamber Information Booth for Market Day and keep it staffed. My church is very important to me and I currently serve as Evangelism Chair. I am also a member of the Wimberley Civic Club and have served as co-chair for Hobby Lobby. I am involved in a lot of various community activities and just love to stay busy and that is easy to do in Wimberley!
