The Nutrition
Program in Wimberley, commonly called Meals on Wheels, provides delivery to homebound
seniors sixty years of age and older. This program has no income
guidelines. Any senior who cannot leave home without assistance may be
eligible. Meals are delivered by volunteers on Tuesday, Wednesday and
Thursday of each week.
| The program in
Wimberley was started more than ten years ago by Jo Quesenberry (see her
in the middle of the photo on the right) who saw a need. She came up with a solution
to help those who prefer to remain in
their own homes but who may require assistance in maintaining a healthy
diet. |
 |
And...
home delivery of hot, well-balanced meals is not all that this program
offers...
 |
Congregate
meals served in group settings are enjoyed by many at the Senior
Citizens center on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, beginning around
11:30. Those interested in group service are asked to sign up and make
reservations at least 24 hours before, please, to aid in planning.
|
Seniors are encouraged to
make a suggested donation of $1.50 per meal. If they cannot make a
donation as suggested, they may give what they can afford. If a person
cannot give a contribution, they will not be denied a meal.
| The Nutrition Program is
made possible by over 36 volunteers. Through home deliveries, these
volunteers have been more than a delivery service. (Take the time,
for instance, when one perceptive helper delivering a meal smelled
leaking gas in time to save a citizen and her home.) |
