The Deborah Elliott and Pat
Davis Home
Deborah Elliott and Pat Davis are passionate stewards of their land. They cared so deeply about this Hill Country escape purchased in 1998 they immediately began taking courses, each becoming not only a Master Gardener, but also a Master Naturalist. They smile when they tell you that their native grasslands are back to the way they were 150 years ago.
The land is not their only love. If asked they will tell you they are all about A’s: Animals, Art, and Artisans. You could also add Architecture to that mix because Deborah inspired architect Emily Little of Austin to design the soaring Studio 25, seemingly built of light and air, situated on the west side of the main residence. The guest room in this space is the most tranquil you will ever see. Surrounded on two sides by glass walls you sleep in nature’s womb.
The interior of the main house has been stripped, gutted and remade into a contemporary oasis, filled with what Pat and Deborah humorously refer to as homemade items. These "homemade" items range from cloth to forged steel, lovingly created by the hands of talented artisans in and around the Hill Country and as far away as Italy.
A very unique architectural feature is the stair railings made of the sucker rods used in the original well on the property. An eclectic assortment of art, 25 paintings in all, adorn the walls in every room of the home, most painted by artists now living in and around Wimberley. You are greeted by an Edward Povey in the hallway next to the stairs, and Jill Carver’s Borderlands hangs above the fireplace. A very old, very beautiful Russian icon is atop a chest of drawers in the downstairs bedroom.
You will be tempted to stay and sit awhile in a front porch rocker while overlooking the valley, but don’t tarry too long. There is still more art to see in 2 Dog Art Studio across the way, and you can’t pass up a stroll through yet another "A," agriculture, in the organic garden adjacent to the studio.
