The 24th Annual Wimberley Community Civic Club Home Tour:
The Joe and Irene Haralson Home

Sponsored by the Wimberley Community Civic Club, the 2011 Hill Country Homes Tour for the Holidays is Friday & Saturday, November 11th and 12th from 10 AM to 5 PM..

The Joe and Irene Haralson Home

Designed by Duke C. Garwood Architects,  the Haralson home is the embodiment of everyone’s dream of a true family home.

For the record, Joe and Irene Haralson spell their last name F-A-M-I-L-Y, because for them, family is what it is all about. First, the property was inherited from Irene’s grandparents and designed around an original foundation her parents laid but never built on. Second, Irene made sure she had a dining room big enough to seat a huge family, enough bedrooms to sleep all nineteen, and enough nooks and crannies to beg exploring from the very young, to the young at heart.

The grandchildren are fortunate to have several places to escape the censorship of the adult world. One is up a stairway at the very back of the house, designed to sleep all eight, with everything a young person might need to make their childhood fantasies come true. This room was affectionately dubbed "The Orphanage" by a young granddaughter who had just played Annie in a local theater production.

The adults are not forgotten in this home. A feeling of coziness that defies the soaring ceilings of the great room and an abundance of natural light play an important part of the interior.

Comfortable furniture, books, personal collections, Saltillo tile floors, beautiful oriental rugs and spectacular paintings, many by Texas artist, Mark Keathley, adorn the heart of this home. Outside there is a beautiful infinity pool and 1,500 square feet of outdoor living space. However, the piece de resistance for Joe Haralson is found a bit east of the main house. This ultimate "man cave" includes plenty of seating for watching the Saturday afternoon game, a table big enough to hold a decent size poker game, and a huge workshop full of a vast assortment of tools most men only dream about. Ladies beware.

If you can’t talk the Haralson’s into adopting you as a child or grandchild, even a distant cousin, you will at least be able to fantasize what it might be like as you tour this beautiful home.

See this home and four others on the 24th annual Hill Country Home Tour, sponsored by the Wimberley Community Civic Club, November 11 and 12, 2011 from 10 am – 5 pm each day.
