Jimmy and Pam Fox were on a plane flying back from a vacation in Italy when they decided to make their dream of living in Wimberley a reality. From the landscaping to the lighting details to the spacious kitchen, this comfortable home was designed with Italian flair and the tastes and desires of the owners.
The Foxes designed the home themselves and it was constructed by Jimmy Jacobs Builders. At 3,200 square feet, the stucco and stone home includes three bedrooms, an open living/dining/kitchen area and two outdoor living areas. It is situated on a quiet, wooded cul-de-sac in the gated community of South River.
The Italian influence starts with the exterior: The vibrant bougainvilleas so prevalent in Italy highlight the landscaping and are a focal point on the upstairs balcony, with its stone arches. That feeling continues into the entry, with its rustic brick barrel ceiling. The couple collects foxes in all forms, and a ceramic version greets guests from the foyer.
Avid cooks and bakers, the owners created a massive kitchen island as the centerpiece of their gourmet kitchen. They host large family gatherings in the space, which is open to the living room and dining room. A unique spaulted pecan vent-a-hood compliments the professional-style stove. A massive 10-foot dining table was made out of reclaimed materials and is at counter height, rather than traditional dining table height.
Pam, an expert seamstress who loves design, took the lead on the interior design and the result is rich and romantic, though still extremely comfortable. Dramatic floor to ceiling draperies frame the windows and all the fabrics throughout the home have an elegant feel. "I tracked down resources for the draperies online and Jimmy and I worked together to hang them," she said.
Nowhere is more romantic than the master bedroom. Looking out to the wooded lot, the bedroom has a cool, serene feel. The sumptuous bed features a curved upholstered headboard and lace-trimmed bedding. The master bath's barrel ceiling is a faux-painted copper that looks like the real thing.
But the true living areas are outdoors, where the owners spend much of their time. The multi-level outdoor space includes seating and dining furniture conveniently positioned within easy viewing of an outdeor television. Down several bougainvillea-lined steps is a stone fire pit with more seating. And for sports fans: a washers pit and ping pong table.
"We get a lot of use out that ping pong table!" Jimmy said.
