The 21st Annual Wimberley Community Civic Club Home Tour:
The McBee Home

Sponsored by the Wimberley Community Civic Club, the 2008 Hill Country Homes Tour for the Holidays will be held on Friday & Saturday, November 21 & 22, 10 AM to 5 PM. Six unique homes are  featured, delighting and inspiring visitors.

CONTEMPORARY ROGER McBEE HOME

Step through the front door of this hilltop home and be captivated at once by a magnificent expanse of floor-to-ceiling arched windows framing nature's artwork outdoors. A masterful blend of architectural styles and décor, each room in the home has its own "feel".

The homeowner, Roger McBee, designed and decorated the home. It was built by Terry Williams, completed in 2004. The home is designed in such a way that one can walk from one end of the house to the other being able to see the stunning 180-degree view from the hilltop.

In designing the house he was influenced by various styles of architecture; Mexican (the paint, the guest bathrooms); Spanish (the arches, the tile floors and roof); Southwest (the wood, the slotted wood entries and the beams); contemporary (the low roof line, the large windows); and Texas (the great room concept). The doorknobs to each of the closets and rooms of the house are antique knobs from old hotels around the Boston area.

Contemporary, clean-lined, open and uncluttered, the kitchen/great room/media room area reflects Roger's minimalist tastes and love of space and light.

Vibrantly colored walls, tiles and artwork in the Senores and Senoritas guest quarters capture the essence of Mexico while the handsomely appointed master bedroom beckons one back to the Old West. There, Cowtown Law, a bronze sculpture by Wimberley resident and western icon Jack Glover, takes center stage.

The lights at the entryways and in the hallway are from Wimberley Glassworks, designed and produced by Tim Jong. The lights on the outside columns are by Lightcrafters, in Austin. The landscaping and rock in the landscape are the work of Ron Lucas of Loma Verde Landscaping in Austin.

Expect to be intrigued by many more fascinating features in this exceptionally well-built home located on FM 2325.
