The 23rd Annual Wimberley Community Civic Club Home Tour:
A Contemporary with 180 Degrees of Views - the Home of Charles and Alejandra Garrido

Sponsored by the Wimberley Community Civic Club, the 2010 Hill Country Homes Tour for the Holidays is Friday & Saturday, November 19th and 20th from 10 AM to 5 PM..

Home of Charles and Alejandra Garrido

Houstonites Charles and Alejandra Garrido chose the site of their second home for the captivating views, privacy, and peacefulness. The Garridos’ home, designed by Wimberley architect Neel Morton, and built by Mickey Maness of  Coachman Homes, was planned as a place for the Garridos’ extended family to gather.

This custom home is sited along the edge of a small bluff to take advantage of more than 180 degrees of views of the Texas Hill Country. The major spaces were then oriented to focus on particular desired views across the panorama. Generous outdoor spaces were designed to complement the open plan of the interior.

The contrast between the rich red wood siding and the white limestone enhances the clean lines of this contemporary style home. The Garridos have masterfully woven together rustic and contemporary with the help of 3 Fold Design Studio of Austin. The home is filled with many high-tech features, metal art chandelier, a gallery of fossil photos along the guest wing hallway, and other intriguing accessories and artwork.

The home has many sustainable features such as high efficiency insulated glazing, polished concrete floors, reclaimed wood flooring, on-demand water heaters, a roof-mounted solar panel system, and a rain water collection system. The dining room table is made of reclaimed pecan by a local artisan. The local artisan also provided the beams in the dining/living walkway as well as the game room’s Douglass Fir floors.

The owners wanted to honor the Texas Indians that once inhabited these lands and brought in from Colorado a teepee that is built on a redwood deck at the entrance of the property.

See the Garrido home and six others on the 23rd annual Hill Country Home Tour, sponsored by the Wimberley Community Civic Club, November 19 and 20, 2010 from 10 am – 5 pm each day. Tickets for the seven homes will be available for $15 at the Wimberley Visitor Center.
