The 23rd Annual Wimberley Community Civic Club Home Tour:
The Stately River Manor of Walter and Sheila Umphrey

Sponsored by the Wimberley Community Civic Club, the 2010 Hill Country Homes Tour for the Holidays is Friday & Saturday, November 19th and 20th from 10 AM to 5 PM..

River Manor, Vacation Home of Walter and Sheila Umphrey

Featured in the December 2008 Cowboys and Indians magazine, Walter and Sheila Umphreys' stately River Manor, located on approximately 400 acres along the Blanco River, is the family’s spectacular vacation home. This Hill Country retreat provides a quiet escape, a perfect place to play and relax with family and friends.

Originally the property included the main Mediterranean-style house plus two guest homes and a caretaker's cottage, but the Umphreys have added a third guest home and a guest apartment over the garage to accommodate their many guests. They also designed and created a gorgeous backyard entertainment area showcasing an infinity edge pool that appears to flow into the river. Large rocks from the property were placed around the pool to give the appearance of a natural spring completing the outdoor entertainment area.

The home's great room, elegantly designed for comfort, is a favorite gathering place. Sheila Umphrey chose warm, earthy shades to make it even more inviting. A heat-and-cold resistant glass wall on the back side of the great room fireplace allows one to see through to the outside fountain and the grounds beyond, bringing together the soothing elements of earth, water and fire.

See the Umphrey home and six others on the 23rd annual Hill Country Home Tour, sponsored by the Wimberley Community Civic Club, November 19 and 20 from 10 am – 5 pm, 2010 each day. Tickets for the seven homes will be available for $15 at the Wimberley Visitors Center. On the days of the tour tickets will also be available at each home and from 9 am – 5 pm at the Gift and Bake shop located at the Winters-Wimberley House.
